Arteriovenous malformation (AVM)
An AVM occurs when blood vessels in the brain are tangled together. Normal blood flow in the brain travels through veins and arteries that make up separate paths (not intertwined). An untreated AVM can cause serious health complications, including neurological deficits, seizures or damage to surrounding brain tissue.
Brain aneurysm
Cerebral aneurysms are characterized by an abnormal dilation of the blood vessels on or around the brain. The greatest threat of an aneurysm is that it will burst and cause a stroke or life-threatening hemorrhage (severe bleeding).
If an aneurysm ruptures, immediate treatment is needed. Even if a rupture does not occur, a large aneurysm can impede circulation and contribute to the formation of blood clots.
Brain tumor
A brain tumor is an abnormal growth of tissue found inside the skull. Brain tumors are categorized as either non-cancerous (benign) or cancerous (malignant).
A primary brain tumor starts in the brain. A metastatic (secondary) brain tumor occurs when cancer cells from other parts of the body, such as the lungs, kidneys, breasts and skin, spread to the brain.
Stroke
A stroke occurs when the blood supply to part of the brain is suddenly interrupted, or a vessel bursts. After a stroke, a person may experience neurological and cognitive effects, such as weakness on one side of the body or trouble moving, talking or thinking.

Diagnostic and treatment services we offer
We offer a wide range of diagnostic and treatment services for neurological conditions, including:
- Angiography — Uses X-rays to view inside blood vessels. This can diagnose cerebrovascular diseases, such as stroke and hypertension.
- Embolization — Used to inject small particles to cut off abnormal blood vessels to prevent blood flow to that area.
- Endovascular therapy — Uses a catheter to remove a blood clot.
Neurointerventional radiology
Neurointerventional radiology allows surgeons to perform minimally invasive, targeted treatments with imaging guidance. In some cases, it may be used instead of an open surgical procedure. Because neurointerventional radiology doesn't involve a large incision, it often involves less pain and shorter recovery times.
We offer the following neurointerventional procedures:
- Balloon angioplasty (opens narrowed or blocked arteries)
- Carotid artery stenting (uses a stent to open up blood flow in an artery blocked by plaque)
- Cerebral angiogram and stenting (widens a clogged artery to allow blood to flow freely to the brain)
- Cerebral coiling (controls bleeding from a hemorrhagic stroke)
- Cerebral thrombectomy (blood clot removal)
- Extracranial (outside the skull) and intracranial (inside the skull) angioplasty
- Vasospasm treatment (increases blood flow to the brain when arteries narrow)
Neurological rehabilitation
We provide specialized rehabilitation services for patients who are recovering from a neurological injury or condition. Our neurorehabilitation physiatrists and dedicated team of therapists work with you to develop a recovery plan best suited to your needs. This may include physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech-language pathology.
